Only Jesus: A Dog's Perspective

Only Jesus: A Dog's Perspective

"And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
- Philippians 4:7

I was sitting on the porch at sunset last night watching my human look out over our little corner of the world.

He does that sometimes.
Gets real quiet.
The kind of quiet that says his heart’s talking louder than his mouth ever could.

I’ve learned to listen in those moments.

He started whispering… not to me exactly… but I could hear him just the same:

So many things I wish I could give folks in my little part of the world…

Hope… for the ones who feel like they’ve run out.

Joy… for the ones who forgot what it feels like.

Healing… for bodies that ache and break.

Reconciliation… for hearts that used to beat together but don’t anymore.

Peace… for storms that don’t seem to pass.

Light… for places that feel mighty dark.

Now, I don’t understand everything…
But I understand longing.

I’ve waited at the door for my human longer than I care to admit.
I’ve paced and whined and wondered if he was ever coming back.

And when he finally does…
Well… there is not much anything like that kind of relief.

But the kind of need he was talking about is deeper than waiting at a door.

It’s the kind of need no human can fix.

He sighed… scratched me behind the ears… and said it plain and simple:

Only Jesus can do that… only Jesus.”

And I think that’s when it settled in my dog heart.

I try real hard to comfort my human.
I sit close.
I stay near.
I wag when he’s low and lean when he’s tired.

But there are places even I can’t go with him.

Places only Jesus can reach.

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
— John 14:27

That’s the kind of peace my human was talking about.
Not porch peace.
Not quiet-evening peace.

Soul peace.

And that only comes from Jesus.

I think sometimes we want to be the fixer.
The healer.
The one with the right words and strong hands.

But maybe… just maybe…we’re not meant to be the answer.

We’re meant to point to the One who is.

I can’t fix my human’s worries…
But I can sit with him while he hands them over.

He can’t fix the whole world…
But he can point folks to Jesus.

Point with a nudge.
Point with a quiet presence.
Point with a faithful kind of love that says, “There’s Someone greater than me… and He sees you.”

And that’s enough.

No… that’s more than enough.

So if you’re carrying something heavy today…
Something no one else seems able to lift…

You don’t need a better dog…
Or a better human…

You need Jesus.

Because…
Hope
Joy
Healing
Peace
They don’t come from us.

They come from Him.

And let me tell you… He’s real good at what He does.

Keep the Faith… Carpe Diem
