Sowing Seeds: A Dog's Perspective

Sowing Seeds: A Dog's Perspective

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
- Galatians 6:9

“One sows and another reaps.”
- John 4:37

My human has a funny habit.

He’ll walk around the backyard with a little pouch hanging from his side, stopping every now and then to scatter tiny seeds into places that don’t look like much.
Honestly, if it were me, I’d bury a bone there instead.
At least I’d know where to find it later.

But seeds?
They disappear.

For days…nothing.

Then weeks later, there it was.
Tiny green sprouts pushing through the dirt.
Before long there were blooms, tomatoes, peppers, and butterflies everywhere.

That got me thinking.

My human talks to folks about Jesus wherever he goes.
Sometimes it’s at church.
Sometimes it’s over a cup of coffee.
Sometimes it’s just a kind word to someone who’s hurting.
He never knows what will happen after that conversation.
Most of the time, he doesn’t see anything change at all.

Still…he keeps planting.

And that’s where the gardening starts to look a lot like the Gospel.

When my human shares the good news of Jesus, he is sowing seeds into hearts he cannot see.

He may be the one who starts the conversation, but he may not be the one who sees the harvest.

Another believer may come along later and water those seeds adding more truth, more prayer, and more love.

And sometimes God Himself brings the growth in ways no one expected.

That’s exactly why Jesus said in John 4:37“One sows and another reaps.”

Galatians 6:9 reminds us not to grow weary in doing good, because “at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

That means sowing is not pointless just because the results are not immediate.
Watering is not wasted just because we cannot see roots growing underground.
Reaping is not our job to force.
It is God’s timing.
God’s work.
God’s harvest.

And God sees what we can’t.

Every encouraging word
Every invitation to church
Every prayer whispered for a neighbor
Every act of kindness
Every Gospel conversation is another seed tucked into the soil of someone’s heart.

Some seeds sprout quickly.
Others may lie hidden for a long time before the rain of God’s grace brings them to life.
Some people sow.
Some people water.
Some people reap.
But all of it matters, because God is working through each faithful step.

Our job isn’t to force the harvest.
It’s to keep sowing faithfully.
Keep watering with prayer and love. Keep speaking truth in love.
Keep trusting God with the results.

Galatians 6:9 calls us to perseverance, and John 4:37 reminds us that the work may be shared, but the harvest belongs to God.
We plant.
We water.
We wait.
And in His perfect time, He brings the fruit.

I’ll probably keep burying bones…it’s what dogs do.

But I hope my human keeps burying Gospel seeds.

Those have a way of lasting forever.

Keep the Faith… Carpe Diem
