“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
- Colossians 3:23
“Be doers of the word, and not hearers only.” - James 1:22
Sundays are my favorite days.
My human puts on his nicer clothes, grabs that well-worn Bible, and heads out the door smiling.
I know where they’re going.
And whether he’s preaching, teaching or just attending.... I have to stay at home and hear all about it later.
You know, life is pretty good on Sundays.
But if I’m honest, most of life isn’t Sunday.
Most of life is full days of day to day work along with…
Monday morning coffee.
Tuesday morning breakfast meetings.
Wednesdaycyard work when he gets home.
Thursday phone calls and follow ups.
Friday errands.
Saturday honey-do’s.
All while trying to fit in the gym and time with me in there somewhere.
Those are what my human calls “normal days.”
But I’ve noticed something.
My human doesn’t just read his Bible on Sunday.
I catch him with it early in the morning while the coffee is brewing.
I hear him pray over people who don’t even know he’s praying.
I’ve watched him stop to help neighbors, encourage cashiers, forgive folks who probably don’t deserve it, and laugh with people who needed someone to laugh with.
No choir.
No sermon.
No spotlight.
Just ordinary faith on ordinary days.
You know, dogs don’t have “church days.”
Every morning I wake up excited to see my human.
Every tail wag is the same, whether it’s Sunday or Tuesday.
I don’t save my loyalty for one day a week.
Maybe that’s the lesson.
Following Jesus was never meant to be something we wear once a week like our Sunday clothes.
It’s supposed to be woven into every conversation, every decision, every act of kindness, every ordinary moment that nobody else notices but God.
The truth is, most of our testimony isn’t built in the big moments.
It’s built in the thousands of little ones.
The patient response.
The honest answer.
The quiet prayer.
The helping hand.
The faithful work.
That’s where the world sees Jesus.
Turns out, the ordinary days are where faith gets its exercise.
Anyone can smile in the church parking lot.
The real test is smiling in the grocery store checkout line.
It’s easy to sing “I Surrender All” on Sunday.
It’s a little harder when life throws you a flat tire, a difficult customer, or disappointing news on Monday morning.
My human has taught me that following Jesus isn’t an event on the calendar—it’s a way of walking through every ordinary day.
As for me, I’ll keep doing what I know best.
I’ll greet every morning with a wagging tail, staying close to my human, and reminding him that today’s a pretty good day to be faithful.
After all, Jesus doesn’t just meet us on Sundays.
He walks with us through every wonderfully normal day.
And as my human often says, I have a feeling that God has something pretty cool planned for today... even if it is just another normal day.
Keep the Faith… Carpe Diem
