Old Lazy Dog brings a different view of faith, life, and the struggles we face in the marketplace and our day to day lives…while we strive to go deeper in our faith walk, put our faith to work, and see God at work around us on a daily basis.

Thrill

Thrill

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
to sing praises to the Most High.
It is good to proclaim your unfailing love in the morning,
your faithfulness in the evening,
accompanied by the ten-stringed harp
and the melody of the lyre.
You thrill me, Lord, with all you have done for me!
I sing for joy because of what you have done.
O Lord, what great works you do!
And how deep are your thoughts.”
- Psalm 92:1-5 NLT

What do you think of when you think of the word “Thrilled”?

When I think about being thrilled, it’s the first thing I think about is my wife and girls (as well as my sons-in-law and grandsons). I’m thrilled by the people my kids are becoming and the things they are accomplishing. And my wife? That goes without saying. I’m thrilled that she likes to be around me.

Then, my mind goes to Amusement Parks and all their thrill rides. Especially roller coasters.

My family loves roller coasters. There is something about the thrill. The rush of the blind curves and the speed of the hills. The whoosh as you go screaming down the track. Nothing seemingly holding you in your seat. That touch of fear and adrenaline kick. Whew!

So much fun.
So exciting.
So thrilling.

Then my mind drifts to all those who jump out of perfectly good airplanes to skydive… to those who mountain climb, parasail, hand glide, jump off a mountain with nothing more than a wing shaped parachute that will allow one to soar for minutes at a time… Thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies one and all.

Then, in the New Living Translation version of today’s passage, the psalmist speaks of how God thrills him. He is thrilled by all that God has done for Him. Yes, even that kind of thrilled.

The psalmist is more than happy. More than excited. He is all that rolled into one. He is thrilled by what God has done.

When was the last time you found yourself thrilled by God?

In this day of stoicism and hardening of hearts, being thrilled has become something we seek to get our hearts pounding and our juices flowing.

David reminds us in his retirement talk with Solomon that “If you seek Him, He will be found by you.

So, just like the thrill-seekers on the sides of mountains or the oceans deep or somewhere in between, we need to seek God and find Him.

And be thrilled…

For He will thrill us through who He is and what He does.

We need to allow ourselves, allow our heart and soul to be thrilled by the One who created the mountains and the ocean…
thrilled by the One who walked on the water,
thrilled by the One who calmed the wind and the raging sea…
thrilled by the One who fights our battles,
who conquered death…
who is with us in the fire and the flame,
yet slept in peace in the midst of the storm.

Thrilled by the One who is found in that still, small voice.

Be thrilled by Him.

Keep the Faith... Carpe Diem
