“For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God, while we look forward with hope to that wonderful day when the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, will be revealed. He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.” - Titus 2:11-14 NLT
When I was playing competitive sports, a whole lot of talking didn’t need to be done. Not a lot needed to be said. Very little of today’s trash talking was ever heard. After a hard fought battle, we didn’t pound our chests or pull our jerseys toward the crowds… all that we usually had to do was look at the scoreboard and say/think
“ ‘Nuf said...’ “
And the teams would walk over, shake hands and congratulate the other team and then head to the locker room, or head home, or move on to whatever the rest of the day/night held.
As I read this morning’s passage and contemplated its tone, along with its simple directness, this is what came to mind.
That’s it. It says it all right there. Let this passage seep into your very soul. Allow it to guide who you are and who you are becoming in Christ.
