Old Lazy Dog brings a different view of faith, life, and the struggles we face in the marketplace and our day to day lives…while we strive to go deeper in our faith walk, put our faith to work, and see God at work around us on a daily basis.

Poiema: A Dog's Perspective

Poiema: A Dog's Perspective

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” - Ephesians 2:10

My human was sitting on the porch with his Bible open again, coffee on his table.
I figured it was a good time to stretch out beside him and keep one eye on the squirrels and the other on him.

He smiled and whispered, “Poiema

I cocked my head.
That’s dog language for, “Go on… you’ve got my attention.”

He said, “Did you know the Greek word for workmanship is poiema? It means masterpiece… handiwork… something carefully made by an artist. It’s even where we get our word poem.

Then I watched my human close his Bible and look out across the fields.
I think he was remembering that God didn’t just create dogs with purpose.
He created people that way too.

Now, I’ve seen my human write poems, sermons, and little notes that bless folks.
Each one starts as a blank page before it becomes something worth reading.

Maybe people are like that blank page too.

I’ve spent plenty of time wondering why my ears don’t match, why my tail’s got a funny crook in it, or why I never could catch that old gray squirrel that’s been laughing at me for years.
But my human never complains.
He just grins and says, “You’re exactly the dog I needed.

Seems like a lot of folks spend their days wishing they were somebody else—taller, smarter, richer, younger, stronger.
They’re forever comparing their page to somebody else’s poem.

But God doesn’t make copies.

He creates masterpieces.

You’re not something God threw together on a busy afternoon.
You’re His poiema
His workmanship.
His masterpiece.
His carefully written poem with a purpose only you can live.

Every scar, every victory, every tear, every laugh, every chapter of your story becomes another line in the poem He’s writing.
Some verses are joyful.
Others are written with tear stains.
But every word is placed there by a loving Author who never wastes a page.

But being God’s masterpiece doesn’t mean you’re flawless.
It means you’re lovingly fashioned by the Master Craftsman, and He’s still shaping you into what He designed you to become.

So today, quit comparing your chapter to somebody else’s.
Quit wishing you were written differently.

Just let the Author keep writing.

Ephesians doesn’t just say we’re God’s workmanship.

It salso ays we’re created for good works that He already prepared for us.

That means your life isn’t an accident looking for a purpose.

Your purpose was waiting before you ever arrived.

Poiema, indeed…

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for creating us with purpose and love. Help us to see ourselves as Your workmanship, Your poiema, and to faithfully walk in the good works You have prepared for us. Amen.

Keep the Faith… Carpe Diem
