The Big Game: A Dog's Perspective
It’s almost that Sunday again.
The one with lots of noise and snacks on the floor and folks hollering at a funny shaped ball.
Yep — Super Bowl LX is coming up on Sunday, with the Seahawks and the Patriots about to tussle for that shiny Vince Lombardi Trophy.
You know, as a dog I don’t get all the strategy talk or why there’s so much fuss over halftime shows and commercials — though I’ll settle in and watch for whatever might fall to the floor.
But I do get running and striving and wanting to finish strong, because every chase in the backyard is a little race of joy for me.
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.”
That’s from 1 Corinthians 9:24—
Paul’s way of saying run like you mean it.
Don’t just trot on the treadmill of life, but sprint toward what matters most.
He says we should discipline our bodies, make them work with purpose, so we finish the race set before us.
If we can take that kind of focus to the fridge when dinner’s late, why not take it into life with Jesus?
Christ didn’t call us to half-hearted marching; He calls us to faithful running with eyes on the eternal prize.
And then there’s this bit in Philippians 3:13-14 “…forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal…”
That’s good running wisdom, whether you’re chasing down a punt or chasing down Jesus.
Here’s what I’ve learned while my human was reading out loud:
Run the race God set before you — not just for dinner scraps or Sunday bragging rights, but for the never-ending prize only He gives.
Stay disciplined — even when distractions pop up like squeaky toys or flashy halftime shows — remember who’s watching you run.
Keep your eyes forward — don’t get stuck sniffing yesterday’s grass. Look toward the goal God has for you today.
