Old Lazy Dog brings a different view of faith, life, and the struggles we face in the marketplace and our day to day lives…while we strive to go deeper in our faith walk, put our faith to work, and see God at work around us on a daily basis.

God's Will: A Dog's Perspective

God's Will: A Dog's Perspective

I spend a lot of time stretched out on the porch, chin on my paws, watching folks hurry by.
They walk fast, heads down, phones in hand, like they’re afraid they might miss something important.
Every now and then I hear them sigh and say things like, “I just wish I knew God’s will for my life.”

That makes this old dog cock his head a bit.

You see, I’ve never once worried about my master’s will.
I don’t sit on the porch wondering if I should chase the ball, or guard the house, or lie still in the shade.

I’ve learned something simple over the years:
My job is to stay close enough to hear his voice and quick enough to follow when he moves.

Paul puts it more plain than a bowl of dry kibble:
“Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.”
- Ephesians 5:17

Most folks think God’s will is some hidden thing—buried under a pile of decisions about jobs, houses, or which road to take next.
But Scripture keeps pointing to something simpler and harder at the same time.

God’s will is that we trust Him.
God’s will is that we walk in obedience.
God’s will is that we love Him and love others.

Peter says it this way:
“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise… not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
- 2 Peter 3:9

Micah boils it down even further:
“To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
- Micah 6:8

That sounds less like a maze and more like a path.

This old dog has noticed something else:
The master rarely tells me the whole plan.
He just gives the next command.
Come.
Stay.
Heel.
If I sit around waiting for a full explanation, I’ll miss the moment to move.

Jesus said,
“My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.”
- John 10:27

God’s will for your life isn’t a secret code to crack.
It’s a relationship to live.
When we stay close, when we listen, when we obey the light we’ve been given, the next step usually shows up right on time.

So if you’re worried tonight about God’s will, take it from an old lazy dog on the porch:
Stop straining to see the whole road.
Just stay near the Master.
When He stands up, you stand up.
When He speaks, you follow.

Turns out, that’s been His will all along.

Keep the Faith… Carpe Diem
