Done

Have you ever been done? You know... just done. 

Maybe it’s a job or a project or a volunteer situation, or even a family member that has frustrated you to the point where you find yourself saying (at least to yourself), “I’m done!”

Then you pull away. Either by truly walking away from the situation - leave the job, decline the volunteer role in the future or quit the current commitment, or with the family member, you find yourself protecting your heart, thus distancing yourself from them so that you won’t get hurt.

The whole time saying, “It’s just not worth it. I’m done.”

I’ve seen marriages end. Siblings not talk to siblings or parents for years. Longtime employees leave in hopes of finding something new or better. Thus leaving a leadership void and lost historic knowledge. Volunteer organizations, church committees and Sunday school classes fail, falter, even die from lack of quality volunteers and leadership.

Done.

“When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.”

As I look back over the frustrations and disappointments of life, whether this morning or the past number of years - as frustrating and disappointing as I’m sure that I have been to Him, I’m thankful that Jesus has never said that He is done with me.

Instead, He said, “It is finished.” 

And he bowed his head, and he gave up his spirit. Dying for me and my sins (and for you and yours). Dying so that I may have life and live it abundantly.

As frustrations mount in our day to day walk. Let’s be done with saying we are done and instead turn the moment, the issue, the frustration over to Jesus, the one who finished the job, who completed the task, who paid it all on the cross.

He could’ve walked away. He could’ve said, “I’m done with these people and their disappointments, failures and frustrations.” 

But instead, He said... 

“It is finished.”
