Dogs & Their Masters
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit” - 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 NIV
Have you ever noticed how often a dog and its master seem to match?
You know... you’ve most likely seen it too... the dog and the human start looking alike. Maybe it’s the type of dog they choose. Maybe it’s in the body structure or their eyes, or even their smiles, but the dog and the human start looking like each other. It’s really quite funny sometimes if you stop and take it in.
Back in early December some 7 years ago now, my family and I, including Ginger the Dog (our old Golden Retriever), went to a beautiful gardens-type park in Tallahassee to have some family pictures taken. The setting was beautiful with 100 year oak trees sprinkled with Spanish Moss growing tall and strong along a beautiful lake. In the Spring the gardens are filled with flowers and flowering plants. In December the beauty of the trees, plants and shrubbery behind the flowers is evident.
As our friend continued to snap some pretty cool family pictures, we decided that it was time to allow our personality to show a little bit and take some shots with us in funny poses or making funny faces. In one such pose, it became evident that Ginger the Dog was, in fact, my dog. With everyone in the family making their favorite “selfie” pose, somehow Ginger and I made the exact same pose. Same cock of the head. Same sideways opened mouth smile. Same silly look back toward the camera.

As Believers and Followers of Christ, we are called to take on His image. Called to become more and more like Him. Called to be transformed into His image.
That means that we should love as He loves. Touch as He touches. Respond as Jesus responds. The things that break His heart should break ours.
As we come to know Jesus more and more, we will begin to take on His traits, His character, His image.
And soon, almost like a dog takes on the traits and the image of their master, we will take on the image of Christ. So all the world will see and know Jesus in us.
