A Self Interview

A Self Interview

GDA Friends - I wrote this interview with myself a number of years ago now... From time to time I pick it up and read it to see if anything has changed… to see if I have changed… to try and figure out if I am living what I say I believe or am I just giving my walk with Christ lip service. The real questions boil down to one, “Am I where I need to be, should be, want to be in my relationship with Jesus?”

Are you?

“And Solomon, my son, learn to know the God of your ancestors intimately. Worship and serve him with your whole heart and a willing mind. For the Lord sees every heart and knows every plan and thought. If you seek him, you will find him. But if you forsake him, he will reject you forever.” - 1 Chronicles 28:9 NIV

An “Are you?” interview of the heart.

Are you spending the time you should and need to spend with the Lord in prayer and conversation?

"No... probably not. Not like I should. Definitely not like I have."

Are you spending the time you should and need to spend in God’s Word reading it, internalizing it, dwelling on it, even memorizing it and writing it on your heart?

"No... probably not. Not like I should. Definitely not like I have."

And you wonder why you don’t feel like you are hearing from God?

Are you spending the time you should walking with God, shining for Him, striving to glorify Him in all that you say and do?

"Tougher question.. no to some of it. Yes to some of it. But not walking as strong and as confidently as I once did, as I have in the past, as I should."

What’s changed?

"Me, more than anything... knowing that God is everlasting and never changing. So, me - I’ve changed. Time commitments. Allowing the calendar to rule me and control me instead of God. Not making the the time nor taking the time to spend with the Lord. Knowing that the busier I am the more I need Him and his strength and direction.

Also knowing that one of the enemy’s best weapons against me is to get me busy with a lot of good things, which keeps me from the best. He also uses boredom to steal my focus and attention. The enemy knows the chinks in my armor."

What are you going to do about it?

"The easy answer is “change my daily habits” and take time and make time to spend with the Lord. The real answer is “Hopefully I will do that, but life gets in the way.” Sounds like a cop out and leads me to wonder if I really want to change, really want to walk closer with the Lord."

"So... I do. I do want to change. I do want to walk closer. I do want to know Him more. I do want to make time to spend with Him, living as He has called me to live."

If you seek Him, He will be found by you. He is with you and has never left you.

"I know. That’s the problem. I know."

O Lord, forgive me for having slowly faded away. Sliding when I didn’t realize I had. Sliding when I did. O Lord, light the fire in my heart again. Help me shine for you while I hunger and thirst for you. Help me be the man you have made me to be. O Lord, I want to know you more and better. Strengthen my commitment to do just that. I love you Lord. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
