Old Lazy Dog brings a different view of faith, life, and the struggles we face in the marketplace and our day to day lives…while we strive to go deeper in our faith walk, put our faith to work, and see God at work around us on a daily basis.

Dear GDA Friends -

A little over 3 years ago or so now, Ginger, my dog of 11 years, passed away. We saved her when she was a puppy. The Golden Retriever puppy was on her way to be put down when we heard about her and wanted her anyway… issues and all. We expected her to be with us only a few years, at best. Ginger lived a dog’s life as a member of our family for 11.

As an ode to Ginger, today’s GDA is one I wrote a number of years ago… a reminder of the things of faith that I have often learned from my dogs.

Keep the Faith.

Lady G of Dog

“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” - 2 Corinthians 5:20-21 ESV

Lady G of Dog is down.

She just sort of lounges around and does nothing all day. Sleeping or resting her head on the window sill watching over her kingdom that lies outside the walls of the house.

Rarely wanting to go outside. Rarely wanting to do much of anything at all. Rarely even joining Queen Amy around the palace while the three young Princesses and the King prepare to leave the castle for the day.

Lady Ginger’d rather go to her bed and just lay there and relax. Almost like she is sad or down. Not wanting to be bothered by the silliness of the children and their Mother.

And stay there, for the most part, until the king returns home.

When the king finally arrives home from being out in the nether parts of his kingdom, the queen and the princesses welcome him home with open arms and kisses.

Most times these days, Lady Ginger will patiently wait her turn for her time with and acknowledgement from the king. But other times, she rushes to be first. So grateful that the king has finally returned from whence she doth not know.

Lady G will dance with happiness with the king’s acknowledgement. She will bow at his feet awaiting the tough of his loving hand. She will nuzzle his hands and arms, longing to tell him all that she has seen and heard and done this day in the land she calls home.

Then, after the king has had a moment to change his royal garb, Lady G will lead, even pull the king to the backdoor of the palace to lead him to the place where Lady G can run and be free, chasing the royal orb again and again, as he tosses it to edge of the protected land.

The sadness and darkness that had blanketed the heart and life of Lady G of Dog suddenly disappearing as she regains the joy found in spending time with the king.

As Believers, we can find ourselves in much the same place as Lady G of Dog. Forgetting, at times, that we are royalty. Children of God. Forgetting that we are Christ’s ambassadors, charged with representing the King in our day to day lives. Sometimes forgetting the joy that comes in the morning each day that we awaken with the King. Forgetting how our hearts jump with joy each time we are in His presence.

Somehow, forgetting that we are always in His presence... that He is always with us...
that there is nowhere we can go where He is not there.

Keep the Faith... Carpe Diem
